Most people who celebrate Christmas generally like to have their annual holiday cards taken by professional photographers with professional equipment, which they then paste them onto special cards to send to family and friends.  These pictures are generally somewhat serious and a little bit boring.  People generally like getting these cards because it gives them an idea about how well, or poorly their family and friends have been doing over the past year.  However, over the past few years, there has certainly been an enormous economic downturn.  GDP is down, as is consumer confidence and desired spending. This spills over to all facets of life, including real estate, household appliance shopping, name brand consumption, and many other things that can be effected by the economy.  This include holiday cards.  With the costs of stamps, hiring the professional photographer, and buying all of the cards and envelopes, costs of producing holiday photo cards can get pretty pricey.  This means, that it might take a small toll on the families and income, and is certainly not something families who are struggling in these difficult times look forward to.  So, if you would like to save a little money on your holiday cards, you might decide to send digital holiday photo cards to all of your family and friends.  You can take your photo with your own camera, or, since you are saving money not sending out physical cards, you might still decide to hire a professional photographer to take your holiday photo cards.
